Cardcaptor Sakura Character Histories

Cardcaptor Sakura:
Keroberos(Kerberos);Sakura Avalon(Sakura Kinomoto;Li Showron(Syaoran Li);Madison Taylor(Tomoyo Daidoji);Meilin Rae(Meiling Li);Tori Avalon(Toya Kinomoto);Julian Star(Yukito Tsukishiro)

> Keroberos(Kerberos):

Kero is the Guardian of the Seal of the Clow who was napping at the time Sakura breaks the Seal and unleashes the Clow Cards. Kero is one of two guardians of the Clow (created by Clow Reed), and one of his missions is to select the candidate to become the new master of the Cards.

In his miniature, borrowed form he resembles an orange plush toy with white wings. Because Sakura feels that he does not resemble a "Kerberos," she calls him "Kero-chan." He initially rejects the name, but soon comes to embrace it once he gets to know Sakura. Kero-chan is bossy, demanding, and gluttonous, but he also genuinely cares about Sakura and believes that she will become the next Master of the Clow, acting as her guide to gather the Cards. His hobbies include playing video games (which he takes up when he finds the console in Sakura's room and develops great skill) and eating snacks and sweets, even though, drawing his power from the sun, he generates his own energy, and does not need to eat to survive.
Kero also enjoys being filmed by Sakura's best friend, Tomoyo Daidoji(Madison) and, unlike his Sakura, relishes the costume accessories he is asked to wear for these recordings. Even though he has been a willing servant all his life, Kero can be somewhat of an egomaniac, obsessing over his "coolness".
Despite his behavior, Kero is remarkably intelligent. He is knowledgeable not only on the Clow Cards but also on all forms of mysticism, with a knack for reading magical auras.
Cerberus's true form resembles a winged lion, but in order for him to achieve this original form, Sakura must capture The Firey and The Earthy cards. In his true form he has jurisdiction over all things fire and earth, the elements which are "under him" and draw their power, in part from him. He can also raise powerful magical barriers, use his wings as a shield, and breathe fire.
Back To Top.
Sakura Kinomoto(Sakura Avalon):
At the start of the series, Sakura is ten years old and living in a fictional town called Tomoeda in Japan. Sakura is an extremely energetic and cheerful character. She is very athletic, being a member of her school's cheerleading squad and an excellent runner. She often comes across as naive, clumsy, and clueless, but she has her perceptive moments on occasion. Her favorite foods are omelette and noodles with seafood and her favorite recipe is pancakes. Her birthday is in April 1st, she hates Mathematics and her blood type is A.
Sakura's optimistic and trustworthy character allows her to befriend virtually everybody, and the entire series focuses on the friendships she creates with people, whether strangers, loose acquaintances, or rivals. In fact, her personality is a dominating factor in her relationships, especially with Syaoran.
Sakura lives with her older brother, Toya Kinomoto (Tori Avalon), and her father, Fujitaka Kinomoto (Aiden Avalon). The three help manage their home together, often rotating cooking and cleaning chores. Sakura's mother, Nadeshiko Kinomoto (Natasha Avalon), became seriously ill, and died when Sakura was born.
Sakura's most sacred and important items are most likely her sealing wand and cards, since they are her main weapons in magic. Throughout the series, Sakura's magical powers get progressively stronger.
Back To Top.
Syaoran Li(Li Showron):
Syaoran is a distant relative of Clow Reed, the creator of the Clow Cards. As a member of the Li clan of sorcerers from Hong Kong, of which Clow's mother was a member, Syaoran believes that he should be the one to inherit the Clow Cards, not Sakura Kinomoto. He first appears as an antagonist in the story, capturing a few cards for himself in the anime (though none in the manga). As the series progresses, and especially after Sakura is officially deemed the new master of the Cards, Syaoran drops his rivalistic attitude towards her and becomes her ally and friend, eventually falling in love with her and blushing at practically every sight of her. However, Sakura is completely oblivious to these feelings and thinks of him simply as a close friend.
Syaoran is shown, or at least implied, to be an excellent martial artist, swordsman (using a Chinese jian), and sorcerer. His magical abilities are centered around elemental spells using his sword or a collection of ofuda.
Although he claims certain Clow Cards for himself in the anime, Syaoran does not actually capture any Cards, as the act of capturing can only be performed using Sakura's sealing wand. However, if Syaoran has played a major role in weakening or cornering the Card entity prior to its capture, credit for the capture is awarded to him (as the materialized Card floats autonomously to its owner after capture). While Sakura writes her name in rōmaji on the Clow Cards, Syaoran writes his name in chinese characters.
Back To Top.
Tomoyo Daidoji(Madision Taylor):
Tomoyo is the best friend of Sakura. When she discovers that Sakura has become the Cardcaptor, she becomes Sakura's primary assistant by designing "battle costumes", and filming all of her magical (and non-magical) endeavours. (The videotaping, however, seems to be more to Tomoyo's personal benefit and enjoyment than it is to Sakura's.) Tomoyo faithfully keeps Sakura's new identity secret and often covers for her in times of need.
Tomoyo is the daughter of the president of Daidoji Toy Company, Sonomi Daidoji (Samantha Taylor). Sonomi and Sakura's mother Nadeshiko Kinomoto (Natasha Avalon) are first cousins, which makes Sakura, Toya and Tomoyo second cousins. Tomoyo's father is never shown in the series and is only alluded to once, but it is apparent that he does not live in the Daidoji household. Her western-style house in Tomoeda is quite grand, with several maids serving the household. She is sometimes attended by the Daidoji family's team of female bodyguards, and has access to prototype technology from her mother's company (including the cell phones she supplies to Sakura and her circle).
Tomoyo is very mature for her age. One of her major character traits is her selflessness towards Sakura. Tomoyo is kind, caring, highly intelligent, beautiful, meticulous, and very melodic (she has a superb singing voice and often has solos in choir recitals). She always speaks using formal verb conjugations and expressions, giving her a unique air of refinement amongst the cast. When needed, Tomoyo can exhibit considerable cunning and resourcefulness.
Tomoyo aids Sakura's efforts to be in the company of Yukito Tsukishiro (Julian Star) on many occasions, and, in the second half of the series, becomes the confidante of Syaoran Li (Li Showron) when he finds himself falling in love with Sakura.
In the english version Cardcaptors, the fact Sakura and Tomoyo were second cousins was erased from the story, mostly due to the network passing over the episode where Sakura and Tomoyo discover the fact they are cousins.
Back To Top.
Meiling Li(Meilin Rae):
Meiling is Syaoran Li's cousin and fiancee in the Japanese anime. She balances the main cast by being more tomboyish and outspoken about her emotions than the other characters.
Meiling debuts at the end of Episode 19 ("Sakura and the Summer Holiday Homework") with both a cheery Chinese greeting and a hot temper. Her self-proclaimed engagement to Syaoran is something she values and protects highly. Her first impression of Sakura Kinomoto is anything but positive, as she sees Sakura wearing a shirt that she had given to her beloved Syaoran. Meiling accompanies Syaoran in his then-rivalry against Sakura, though she often does so more at school than when capturing Clow Cards.
She has no magical abilities but believes that her physical talents will compensate. Carrying such pride, Meiling vows to help Syaoran capture the Clow Cards using her martial arts skills. However, much to Syaoran's displeasure, she tends to get in the way of his card capturing more often than she helps.
Meiling is well-meaning despite her immaturity, and devoted despite her brash attitude. Her view of Sakura changes from rival to valued friend as the series progresses.
In the english version, Cardcaptors, Meilin Rae is known as Li Showron's childhood friend, who happens to have a crush on him, keeping the possessive attitude from the original anime. Any family relation to Li is erased, which is easily done by Meilin and Li's change of last name. The engagement between them is also removed.
Back To Top.
Toya Kinomoto(Tori Avalon):
Toya is the brother of Sakura Kinomoto. His birthday is on February 29th, which makes him a leap year baby, a person that can only "properly" celebrate their birthday once every four years. His blood type is O. He holds the belief that as Sakura's older brother, he is the only person entitled to make fun of her, a belief that his best friend Yukito Tsukishiro refers to as a "sister complex." However, he is also protective and caring of her, which leads him to dislike Syaoran Li when he finds Syaoran cornering Sakura in the schoolyard. Though Syaoran and Sakura eventually stop fighting, Toya continues to dislike Syaoran when he becomes friends with Sakura, knowing that Syaoran will eventually take Sakura away from him. He is a perceptive young man and has had a vague idea as to what Sakura has been up to as a Cardcaptor, despite Sakura's attempts to keep it a secret.
He is often working, and a running gag in the series involves Sakura and Yukito running into him while he's at work, which can happen virtually anywhere, we later discover that the reason for his many jobs is so he can pay for college on his own. It is also implied that the reason for him bumping into Sakura all the time was not just mere coincidence but may sometimes have been deliberate on his part (he was following her in case she needed protection from any danger.
Toya was born with some magical ability, allowing him to see ghosts (including the one of his late mother). His magical ability is also what helps him sense when Sakura is in danger or when she is doing other "magical" things (which enables him to follow her as described above). This ability, however is what led to Sakura's fear of Ghosts when ever he would tell her about the apparations he saw.
Back To Top.
Yukito Tsukishiro(Julian Star)(Yue):
Yukito is the classmate and best friend of Toya Kinomoto (Tori Avalon in Cardcaptors) and Sakura Kinomoto's (Sakura Avalon) object of affection. Syaoran Li, too, harbours a crush on him for a while, which is based in his subconscious attraction to Yue's magic. Yukito's nearly omnipresent smile is evidence of his kind and gentle nature. Yukito also loves food and has an enormous appetite.
Yukito is actually the false form of the Moon Guardian Yue. Although Yue knows everything about Yukito, Yukito is initially unaware of Yue's presence. Once Yukito learns of his alter-ego's existence, the two are able to communicate mentally. It is suggested that Yue is the reason for Yukito's large appetite, as he is in a sense "eating for two."
From the moment Yukito is introduced, it is clear that Sakura has an enormous crush on him. She continually marvels that he can be friends with her "barbaric brother." Everyone involved, including Yukito himself, believes that his meeting Toya in junior high school three years ago had been coincidence.
However, Yukito's nature as the false form of Yue also means that many of the things he thought he knew about himself are false. He lives in an elaborate house with his grandparents (the house is real, but the grandparents do not exist). In fact, it is unclear whether or not Yukito himself existed at all before his meeting with Toya and introduction to Sakura.
Yukito is peripherally involved in many of Sakura's adventures as the Cardcaptor, mainly because of Sakura's crush on him and his close proximity to the Kinomoto family. In the process, Yukito becomes the object of another juvenile crush; this one held by Syaoran Li (Li Showron). However, it is discovered later that Syaoran was just attracted to the magical energies of the moon residing within Yukito, as Syaoran draws his magical power from the moon.
Not until the last Clow Card is collected does Yukito's true form, Yue, emerge and challenge Sakura's right to the cards. Afterwards, the Yukito and Yue personalities coexist, with Yukito unaware of Yue's presence.
Unfortunately, the strain on Yue's energies becomes so great that even Yukito's massive consumption of food can no longer support it. Yukito begins to fall ill, becoming drowsy, falling asleep at the slightest opportunity, and eventually beginning to fade away altogether. The only thing that can save him is a massive infusion of magical energy, which Yue finally receives from Toya (whose earlier efforts to warn Yukito of his plight were continually interrupted by the aggressive Nakuru Akizuki, also known as Eriol Hiiragizawa's Moon Guardian, Ruby Moon).
